Rev. Dr. Hugh B. Hamilton
Pastor


Rev. Dr. Hugh Basil Hamilton has been a full-time pastor for the last 30+ years of his life. He is presently the senior pastor of Grace United Methodist church and First United Methodist Church of Hollis both located in Queens, New York. Prior to that, he served for 21 years as the full-time senior pastor of North United Methodist church located at 1205 Albany Ave in Hartford. Rev. Hugh, as he prefers to be called, is a naturalized American citizen who was born in St. Vincent and raised in Trinidad and Tobago. He attended the Tranquility Government primary school in Trinidad and then went on to attend The St. James Government Secondary school also in Trinidad. He holds a Doctor in ministry degree from Andover Newton Theological School, then located in Newton Massachusetts, a Master of divinity from Drew University, located in Madison New Jersey, a Bachelor of Arts from The Mona Campus of the University of the West Indies and a Diploma in ministerial studies from The United Theological College of The West Indies both located in Jamaica. He recently completed a Masters in public administration at Sacred Heart University located in Fairfield CT.

His first pastoral appointment was in the Tobago circuit of the Methodist Church in the MCCA (The Methodist Church in The Caribbean and the Americas. From there he went on to serve congregations in Port of Spain, New York and Hartford. Pastor Hamilton is divorced but two children were born from that marriage, Joel and Josianne. Joel is 28+ years old and is working in the state of Connecticut where he resides. Josianne is 24+ years old. She graduated from UConn on May 8 th 2022, and completed law school at the university of Boston in the Spring of 2025.

Pastor Hugh loves God, and he loves people. The Rev Dr. Hugh has one publication in the area of marriage and family therapy: Unbinding The Ties That bind: Psychological and theological reflections on marriage and
divorce for contemporary Christians. Pastor Hugh has a passion for mission and community outreach. He seeks always to be the best pastor he can be to all God’s people wherever he serves.

What time are your services?
Our worship services are held every Sunday at 10:30 AM. Each service lasts approximately 90 minutes and features a blend of contemporary and traditional music, prayer, and a sermon. We also offer a prayer service on Fridays at 7:00 PM.
 

Do you have programs for children and youth?
Absolutely! We offer a range of programs for children and youth of all ages. Our Sunday School meets during the 10:30 AM service, for fellowship, worship, and fun activities. We're passionate about supporting our younger members in their faith journey.
 

How can I get involved in community service?
We have numerous community service initiatives that you can get involved with, ranging from local food drives to international mission trips. To get started, go to the contact us page, fill out the section and someone will reach out to you from the church office.
 

Do I need to be a member to attend services or events?
Not at all! Everyone is welcome to attend our services and community events. Whether you're exploring faith for the first time or looking for a new church home, we invite you to join us.
